It's now been over a decade since the Carolina Panthers last played on the game's biggest stage. But fresh off a long-awaited playoff berth and an NFC South title in 2025, is that drought closer to its end?
Well, while things are trending up for Carolina, their roster is still pretty far off compared to the heavyweight contenders around the NFL. According to Brad Gagnon at Bleacher Report, the Panthers aren't particularly close to challenging for the Lombardi Trophy just yet.
Gagnon, who recently identified each team's Super Bowl window, believes that the Panthers' is "closed . . . for now." He writes:
It's fair to say that the Panthers aren't sure what they have in Young, but there is precedent for a quarterback to have a sudden superstar turn after a few disappointing seasons in the NFL. We've seen it with Buffalo's Josh Allen, who turned into a regular MVP candidate after two unimpressive campaigns to start his career.
Young is coming off a career campaign in 2025, where he threw for bests across the board. He still, however, has yet to produce at a consistent level—having thrown for at least 250 yards in just seven of his 44 starts.
If Young makes a similar leap, the Panthers will be able to open that window. But that's a big "if."
