Newcastle United are closely monitoring the situation of Paris Saint-Germain wonderkid Pierre Mounguengue.
The highly-rated striker has emerged as a potential long-term target for Newcastle.
According to RMC Sport, Newcastle joined RC Strasbourg in the race for the 18-year-old, whose future remains uncertain as he approaches the final weeks of his current contract.
Despite being regarded as one of the standout talents in the academy, Mounguengue hasn’t received assurances over his pathway into the first team, paving the way for the Magpies.
That uncertainty has alerted several clubs, with Strasbourg already submitting two offers.
However, Newcastle could alter the landscape as they continue to identify elite young talent capable of strengthening the club’s future.
Mounguengue enjoyed a remarkable campaign for PSG’s Under-19 side, registering 21 goals and 12 assists in 35 appearances across all competitions.
The teenager’s performances earned him a professional debut under Luis Enrique in May, a sign of the faith PSG’s coaching staff have in his potential.
For Newcastle, this is exactly the type of opportunity that should become increasingly attractive under the club’s modern recruitment strategy.
Rather than spending heavily on established stars alone, the Magpies have also looked to secure some of Europe’s brightest prospects before their value explodes.
Should Newcastle succeed in landing Mounguengue, a loan move would appear the most logical next step.
Regular senior football elsewhere could accelerate his development while allowing the club to monitor his progress without the immediate pressure of Premier League expectations.
PSG’s academy has developed an impressive reputation for producing elite-level talent in recent years.
While not every prospect reaches the very top, the production line continues to generate players coveted across Europe.
Mounguengue’s blend of goalscoring instinct, creativity and technical quality suggests he could be the next breakout star from that conveyor belt.
For Newcastle, securing his signature now could prove to be a shrewd move that pays significant dividends.
