Newcastle United are braced for a potential bidding war over wantaway midfielder Sandro Tonali.
However, The Times reports that the Magpies will only sanction a summer exit if they receive offers north of £100 million.
After forking out around £61m to bring him in from AC Milan, reports claim Newcastle are keen to make a ‘hefty profit’ on the midfielder this summer.
The Magpies would only consider a deal that delivers a substantial return on their investment.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has previously waxed lyrical about Tonali, claiming he fell ‘in love’ while watching the Italy international on the pitch.
However, with the Magpies unable to offer Champions League football next season, Tonali looks primed to jump ship this summer, and a lot of clubs are lining up for his signature.
Tonali has been offered to Arsenal and Manchester United, while Tottenham Hotspur are the latest to join the race for the Italian maestro.
While Spurs haven’t made direct contact with Newcastle, they’re believed to have held discussions with the player’s representatives.
Tonali is still considered a key part of Newcastle’s plans, but speculation surrounding his future continues to gather pace ahead of what could be a pivotal transfer window for the Magpies.
Tottenham are said to be exploring a move at the behest of new manager Roberto De Zerbi, but any approach would likely require a significant financial commitment.
Tonali is still under a long-term contract at Newcastle. He signed an extension earlier this year, keeping him at St. James’ Park until 2029, with the option of an additional season.
The Italian made 53 appearances across all competitions last season, chipping in with three goals and seven assists as Newcastle finished in the bottom half of the table.
The Magpies have already cashed in on Anthony Gordon, who has joined Barcelona. Tonali could be the next to jump ship, while Joe Willock and Valentino Livramento are also attracting attention.
