The New York Yankees dropped their seventh straight game on Wednesday afternoon, falling to the Detroit Tigers in extra innings. The Yankees scored just two runs in the affair and have managed more than three runs just once throughout this skid.

What's more, New York has not scored five or more runs since June 19.

The offense has absolutely fallen apart in the absence of Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton, which probably should not come as too much of a surprise. Trent Grisham and Ryan McMahon are due back this week, but neither player is a savior. Hardly.

Judge might be sidelined until September with a stress fracture in his rib. He missed the entire month of June and is still several weeks away from re-imaging. Stanton has been out since late April with a calf injury, and his return is not imminent.

The Yankees have been left with an absolute mess of a lineup that can't seem to buy hits, and it's getting worse and worse.

Most problematic of all is New York's future is now hanging in the balance.

While the Yankees are still in pole position as far as the playoffs go, does anyone honestly believe they are guaranteed to hold firm with so many long-term injuries? And if New York does miss the postseason this year ... well, disaster could ensue.

Judge is 34 years old. Stanton is 36. Gerrit Cole is 35. Max Fried and Cody Bellinger are both in their 30s. The core of this team is old, and there is no way around it.

How many dominant years does Judge realistically have remaining? I know Stanton was fantastic in 2025, but could he be on the verge of a steep decline? Cole hasn't looked like himself since returning from Tommy John surgery.

There will be a whole bunch of questions for the Yankees to answer over the winter, and none of them will be fun.

Of course, Brian Cashman can get ahead of all of that now and swing some major moves before the MLB trade deadline, but it won't be easy. There aren't a ton of stars slated to be available right now, and New York can't clog Judge and Stanton's spots in the lineup considering they are both likely to return at some point this season.

The Yanks are in a miserable position at the moment, and there are no easy answers in sight. But it's absolutely terrifying to think that this really could be the end.

Prior to all of the injuries, the Yankees were rolling. They appeared to be the best team in the American League, and a World Series rematch with the Los Angeles Dodgers seemed to be very much on the table.

Then, all of this happened, not only potentially sabotaging New York's chances of an October run this year, but perhaps its entire future, as well.
