MIAMI, March 9 (UPI) -- The New York Jets agreed to acquire safety Minkah Fitzpatrick through a trade with the Miami Dolphins, league sources told UPI on Monday.
Fitzpatrick, who initially joined the Dolphins as the No. 11 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft and reunited with the franchise in a June trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers, started 14 games in 2025.
He logged 82 combined tackles, six passes defensed, four tackles for a loss, two fumble recoveries, a forced fumble, an interception and a sack last season.
The eight-year veteran totaled 690 combined tackles, 60 passes defensed, 21 interceptions, 12 tackles for a loss, seven fumble recoveries, six forced fumbles and five defensive touchdowns over the first 120 appearances of his NFL career.
Pro Football Focus rated Fitzpatrick the No. 6 safety among those who were in for at least 50% of the maximum snaps played at the position in 2025. He rated No. 23 in 2024, when he started all 17 games for the Steelers.

Fitzpatrick is to slot in at free safety next to Jets strong safety Malachi Moore. Fellow free safeties Andre Cisco and Tony Adams, who started eight and nine games, respectively, last season for the Jets, are headed toward free agency.
