New York Jets get price tag for Mac Jones trade originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The New York Jets are in the worst slump of any team in the NFL. They haven't been to the postseason since the 2010 season, and their list of quarterbacks in that time is a long one.
After a year in which New York signed Justin Fields to a two-year, $40 million contract that saw the former first-round pick get benched midway through the season. This led to Tyrod Taylor and Brady Cook starting the rest of the way. Now entering a crucial offseason, Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey need to find a quarterback that can lead them to wins.
Tyler Sullivan of CBS Sports labeled the Jets as a landing spot for San Francisco 49ers quarterback Mac Jones, and projects that it will take a third-round pick for the Jets to land him.
"Jones is still only 27 years old and has a cap hit of just over $3 million in 2026," Sullivan writes. "That creates significant value for prospective teams to evaluate Jones as a potential next veteran to revitalize his career and propel their franchise to playoff contention."
Jones played well in relief of Brock Purdy during the 2025 season, throwing 13 touchdowns to six interceptions in eight starts, leading the 49ers to a 5-3 record in those eight games.
Considering Dante Moore decided to stay at Oregon for another season, and the 2026 quarterback class is underwhelming, perhaps the Jets could turn their attention towards Jones.
