Minnesota Vikings now know the asking price for Mac Jones trade originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Minnesota Vikings enter the offseason with big questions surrounding the quarterback position for yet another season.
At this time last year, many wondered if the Vikings would bring back Sam Darnold after a 14-3 season. Instead, they opted to go with J.J. McCarthy, who struggled throughout the season. The Vikings went 9-8 and missed the playoffs while Darnold won the Super Bowl.
With this in mind, the Vikings could be in the market to bring in a veteran quarterback, and one name to watch is San Francisco 49ers quarterback Mac Jones. According to Tyler Sullivan of CBS Sports. the Vikings could acquire the former first-round pick with a third-round pick.
"Jones is still only 27 years old and has a cap hit of just over $3 million in 2026," Sullivan writes. "That creates significant value for prospective teams to evaluate Jones as a potential next veteran to revitalize his career and propel their franchise to playoff contention."
Jones played very well in relief of Brock Purdy in 2025, starting eight games for the 49ers. In those eight starts, he threw 13 touchdowns and put together a 5-3 record.
Considering what we just saw in Seattle with Darnold leading the Seahawks to a Super Bowl, many teams will believe they can help revive a former first-round pick and try to replicate the Seahawks' formula. Considering the Vikings have the defense and the weapons in place, maybe Jones can be the guy to take them back to the postseason and help them make some noise.
