The New York Giants have waived defensive back Anthony Johnson Jr.

Johnson, a safety who joined the team in August 2024 after being claimed off waivers from the Green Bay Packers, saw limited action primarily on special teams during his tenure in New York. He appeared in nine games in 2024, contributing mostly in reserve roles with minimal defensive snaps late in the season.

Originally a seventh-round pick (242nd overall) by the Packers in the 2023 NFL draft out of Iowa State, where he transitioned from cornerback to safety and earned second-team All-Big 12 honors in 2022, Johnson spent his rookie year in Green Bay. There, he played in 12 games, recording 24 tackles, three pass deflections, and one interception while seeing time on defense and special teams.

The 26-year-old, listed at 6-foot, 205 pounds, was unable to secure a consistent role with the Giants and was ultimately released following a failed physical designation earlier in 2025, leading to his placement on the reserve/PUP list before the final waiver.

This transaction clears space as the team manages its roster ahead of the upcoming league year.
