New York Giants linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux has been at the center of multiple trade rumors throughout much of the offseason and even dating back to last year.
The talented edge rusher struggled in 2025 and will undoubtedly need a strong bounce-back season. New York originally selected Thibodeaux with the fifth overall pick in the 2022 NFL draft, but the linebacker has yet to consistently perform at a high level across the first four seasons of his career.
The Giants have significant depth at the outside linebacker position entering 2026. Thibodeaux’s playing time could decrease quickly if he struggles early on, as New York reloaded at the position through both free agency and the draft this offseason.
During the final days of the offseason workout program, Giants linebacker Brian Burns was asked about how Thibodeaux has handled the rumors and speculation this spring. Burns said his teammate has managed the situation perfectly.
"I'm so proud of Thibs, dog. And I don't want to sound all sentimental or whatever, but just the man he is and he's becoming, like the way he handles his business, is something that's really inspirational. He's doing everything right. He's leaving no stones unturned, and that's something that I really commend him on because he is put in tough situations at times, and he's handled it like a pro," Burns told reporters.
Thibodeaux has handled the entire offseason exceptionally well, both on and off the field, despite the considerable outside noise surrounding him. The former first-round pick will enter the final year of his rookie contract in 2026, making this the most critical season of his NFL career to date.
Burns is also expected to play a significant role in Thibodeaux’s success. The duo should create constant problems for opposing offenses throughout the 2026 season, and Burns’ presence alone could make things much easier for his teammate.
Thibodeaux enters a pivotal year, but he has managed this offseason’s drama like a complete professional.
