The Pittsburgh Steelers have released their first depth chart for the 2026 season, and it's not exactly great news for one new face at running back, who's been getting the majority of the first-team opportunities in training camp.
On Wednesday, the Steelers' newly released depth chart had Rico Dowdle listed as the RB2 behind Jaylen Warren. Considering reports indicated Dowdle was getting first-team reps over Warren, the depth chart placement was surprising, to say the least.
Dowdle, who has history with Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy from their Dallas Cowboys days, signed with Pittsburgh this offseason as a free agent and has emerged over the past few weeks as a favorite in the RB1 positional battle.
It appears Warren has a bigger advantage over Dowdle in the RB1 race than previously realized, which is important just days before the Steelers' preseason opener against the Green Bay Packers. But Dowdle still has time to prove to Pittsburgh why he should be the starting running back in 2026 and potentially make history as the first player to record 1,000 rushing yards in three consecutive seasons with three different teams.
