The New York Jets entered free agency desperately needing reinforcements at cornerback. One arrived via the shrewd signing of Nahshon Wright. Wright may be a starter for the Jets after signing a one-year contract worth up to $5.5 million.

Wright might manage to solve a recurring issue for a Jets defense that failed to register a single interception in 2025. Wright recorded a career-high five interceptions last season in Chicago, adding another 11 pass breakups to his defensive totals.

The NFL announced the top performance-based pay earners for the 2025 campaign on Monday. White led all NFL players in incentive-based earnings, accumulating an additional $1,441,397 for his production, according to data released by the league office. White earned a base salary of $1.1 million with the Bears last season. He more than doubled his year-long earnings by being productive.

Wright may be a starter in the Jets defensive backfield. Brandon Stephens projects as one starter at cornerback. The other spot may come down to a competition between Wright and sophomore Azareye'h Thomas. The nickel spot should belong to Jarvis Brownlee Jr.

Wright is a true competitor. The Jets could use that underdog mentality and approach at cornerback. He'll attempt to continue defying the odds in 2026.
