The Brooklyn Nets have already played three games as part of their summer league circuit this year after the team participated in the California Classic where some players have had standout performances. Brooklyn was likely hoping that guard Mikel Brown Jr., the No. 6 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, would face off against Sacramento Kings guard Darius Acuff Jr., but the impending matchup is still deemed as must-see.

"On Night 1 of the 2026 NBA Draft, point guards Mikel Brown Jr. (No. 6 to Brooklyn) and Darius Acuff Jr. (No. 7 to Sacramento) were taken with consecutive picks. After being selected back-to-back on draft night, they’ll go head-to-head for the first time at Las Vegas Summer League," Brian Martin of NBA.com wrote on the matchup. Assuming that both players are playing, they are slated to match up on July 14.

"Both are dynamic scorers and playmakers who can produce from all three levels while creating opportunities for teammates," Martin continued on the Brown/Acuff matchup. "Brown Jr. showcased his passing ability with an eye-popping assist in his California Classic debut, while Acuff Jr. buried this clutch 3-pointer to ice Monday’s game and lift the Kings to 3-0 this summer."

Brown, 20, has played just one game of summer league as of this writing, but it was quite the debut as he dropped 10 points and four assists in 19 minutes in a 100-79 win over Golden State Warriors Blue on Monday. Brooklyn and Sacramento already faced off during the California Classic, but Brown didn't play in that game as the team currently has him under a minutes-management stint.

"He's at a 20 minute cap. He hasn't played a lot of games since his injury back in March, and I think allowing him to build up, the hope is that he gets through this," Nets summer league coach Dutch Gaitley said of Brown. Brown has made significant strides since dealing with a back injury during his freshman season at Louisville and if he doesn't suffer any setbacks, his matchup against Acuff could be box office, so to speak.
