NESN Analyst Staunchly Doubles Down On Bold Red Sox Playoff Prediction originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Two weeks ago, after the Boston Red Sox completed their three-game road sweep of the Kansas City Royals, NESN analyst Lucy Burdge boldly predicted that the Red Sox would make the playoffs this year.
At the time, Boston was 22-27 and just two games out of a postseason spot. Their playoff odds at FanGraphs were 35.8 percent.
Unfortunately for Burdge, the Red Sox have gone just 3-6 since then, falling further behind in the standings. They enter play on Tuesday last in the AL East at 25-33, three games out of a playoff spot and with their postseason odds now at 26.4 percent.
However, Burdge still believes in them, doubling down on her prediction on "Boston's Entered The Chat" this week.
"I do believe they're gonna make the playoffs," Burdge claimed. "This is a good team, and they're going to make the playoffs. Come back in October, and I'll be here."
Burdge is encouraged by Boston's resurgent offense, which has scored 18 runs over its last two games and is coming off its best two-week stretch of the season.
The odds aren't in Burdge's favor right now, but there's still plenty of time for the Red Sox to turn their season around. They entered last June four games below .500 and still made the postseason, so there's no reason they can't improve over their next 104 games and reach the playoffs, especially if they add reinforcements at the trade deadline and get Garrett Crochet and Roman Anthony back from the injured list soon.
