The Nebraska softball team was named one of the big winners in the recently released 2026 NCAA softball tournament bracket. USA TODAY Sports compiled the list and believes NU is in a prime position to make a deep postseason run.

The Huskers earned the fourth overall seed for the 2026 NCAA tournament and will host a regional. The Big Red will open the tournament against the South Dakota Coyotes (20-34-1) on Friday, May 15, at 5:30 p.m. CT.

Nebraska enters the tournament after defeating the UCLA Bruins to win the Big Ten Tournament. South Dakota downed Omaha to win the Summit League title. The other game in the Lincoln Regional has Louisville playing Grand Canyon at 3 p.m. CT.

USA TODAY Sports named the Huskers a big winner following the release of the bracket. They believe that Nebraska has a manageable region with South Dakota, Louisville, and Grand Canyon as the other three teams.

Powered by arguably the best two-way player in the sport, Jordy Frahm, the Cornhuskers grabbed the final No. 1 seed in the tournament and received a relatively manageable draw for their regional. Nebraska will open the postseason against South Dakota, which surprisingly won the Summit League Tournament with a losing record of 20-34-1. Other teams in the Cornhuskers’ regional include Louisville and Grand Canyon.

This is the 28th tournament appearance in Nebraska softball program history and Rhonda Revelle's 24th as the head coach of the Huskers. The program ranks 14th all-time in NCAA tournament appearances, 20th in wins (69) and 15th in Women’s College World Series appearances (7).

As one of the top eight seeds in the field, Nebraska will also host Super Regionals should they triumph this weekend. A year ago, the Cornhuskers had to play at Tennessee in the supers. This time around, the path to Oklahoma City is a bit easier for Frahm and the Big Ten champs.

This is the fifth time and first year since 2013 that Bowlin Stadium has hosted a regional. Should the Huskers advance, they would also host a super regional.
