Nebraska baseball (23-6) visited Omaha on Tuesday night for an in-state rivalry battle with Creighton (13-13). The Huskers survived their second comeback attempt in under a week, holding off the Bluejays 6-5.
Nebraska held a 6-0 lead over Creighton heading into the bottom of the sixth, capitalizing on missed plays and well-placed hits. But the Bluejays delivered a fierce blow in the sixth, scoring five runs to make it a one-score game. The Huskers shut down Creighton in the seventh and eighth, going three-up, three-down in each, before ending the game with two runners on in the ninth.
Mac Moyer, despite finishing 1-for-5, earned three RBIs in the win, bringing in two runs off a single and another run off a groundout. Dylan Carey and Jett Buck each picked up two hits and one RBI. Drew Grego added one hit and one RBI.
Gavin Blachowicz (3-1) opened the game and delivered four shutout innings for Nebraska, firing two strikeouts and allowing two hits. Caleb Clark took over in the fifth and continued the shutout before Creighton unleashed its five-run inning in the sixth. Pryce Bender managed to get Nebraska out of the inning, throwing two strikeouts against two hits and a run.
Chase Olson stood on the mound in the seventh, going three-up, three-down. J’Shawn Unger picked up his fourth save of the season after closing out the final two innings, striking out two batters and allowing not hits. .
Nebraska returns home to take on Penn State for a three-game series starting Friday night. The first pitch is set for 6 p.m. CT on Nebraska Public Media.
