Nebraska softball (27-6) traveled up I-80 for an in-state battle against rival Creighton (18-19). The Huskers defeated the Bluejays 8-2, ending the month of March with a 13-1 record.
Creighton tied the game at 2-2 in the second after Nebraska opened the game with two runs scored. The Huskers took the lead in the fifth, going up 3-2, before stretching the margin to 7-2 in the sixth. The team capitalized on an RBI single, an RBI double and two sacrificial flies in the inning.
Nebraska added one more run in the seventh to close out the game. The Huskers tallied 13 hits for seven RBIs. The Bluejays finished with just three hits, scoring off a two-run home run.
Ava Kuszak led Nebraska with two RBIs, while Kacie Hoffmann batted 2-for-4 and earned a solo home run. Jordy Frahm, Hannah Coor, Hannah Camenzind and Lauren Camenzind also finished with two hits and one RBI. Samantha Bland hit 2-for-4.
Alexis Jensen (14-2) won in the circle for Nebraska after pitching the final 4.0 innings. She tossed seven strikeouts and allowed one hit and no runs. Kylee Magee started the game and threw three strikeouts against two hits and two runs across 3.0 innings.
The Huskers return to Lincoln for a three-game series against Rutgers starting on Friday. The first pitch is set for 5 p.m. CT on the Big Ten Network.
