Nebraska baseball (29-9, 13-3) clashed with No. 12 USC (30-9, 13-6) at home Friday night for game one of the series. The Huskers pulled off the ranked upset, storming back to defeat the Trojans 8-7 in 10 innings.

USC started strong, scoring five runs across the first three innings to put Nebraska in a 5-0 deficit. After the Huskers made the score 5-2 in the sixth, the Trojans added two more runs in the seventh. Nebraska cut the lead to 7-5 in the eighth before forcing extra innings in the ninth, then ending the game in the 10th.

USC suffered multiple miscues in the final two innings, allowing for the Huskers' comeback. A fielding error and a wild pitch helped Nebraska tie the game in the ninth before a throwing error brought in the game-winning run in the 10th. The Trojans finished the night with three errors.

Nebraska totaled 14 hits, while USC delivered nine. Rhett Stokes scored on the error in the 10th after Mac Moyer delivered a bunt for the walk-off. Moyer batted 3-for-5 while Stokes finished 2-for-4 with a walk.

Joshua Overbeek led the Huskers in RBIs, picking up three off his home run in the eighth, his only hit of the night. Jett Buck earned two RBIs after batting 3-for-4 with two doubles. Drew Grego drove in an RBI off a double. Case Sanderson batted 2-for-5 and scored twice.

J’Shawn Unger (5-1) won the night at the mound after entering the game in the 10th. He struck all three batters he faced in the extra inning, capping off the change in momentum for Nebraska. Cooper Katskee started the game and faced a stiff Trojan front, allowing six hits, five walks and five runs in 3.0 innings.

Jalen Worthley took the mound in the fourth and pitched three scoreless frames and allowed only a walk. Grant Cleavinger started the seventh, but USC posted two runs and just one out. Kevin Mannell shut down the Trojans for the next 1.2 innings before Ty Horn threw three-up, three-down in the ninth.

Nebraska continues the series against No. 12 USC on Saturday afternoon. The first pitch is set for 2 p.m. CT on B1G+.
