i don't think that was a clear throw down at all - i'm actually surpised to hear that play being talked about as controversial

zoubek had initial possession, howard made a play on the ball and grabbed it - both were fighting for the ball and pulling on it and howard was turning toward the backstop - zoubek kind of turned with him and just released the ball .... howards own force from pulling did most of the damage

the play I thought we'd be hearing about was the charge late in the game - where I think zoubek (although not certain) slid from behind another defender into the path of the ball carrier who thought he had a clear path

I could of seen that one going as either a block, charge or play on - as such i was expecting to hear a lot of people wanting a block on that play

Maybe it was a charge, but Duke got the benefit of a call on a similar play against Baylor, one I thought changed the complexion of the game.

Either way I have a hard time believing Zoubek only committed four fouls, but I do like the refs that let them play more than the garbage we have in the Pac-10.

both the baylor and butler games were pretty physical

in the baylor game it looked like baylor tried to intimidate them and initiate the physical play

in the butler game it looked like duke tried to assert themselves

when they let people play in the paint you can have a couple dozen what ifs

Not the same play. The play I mentioned he from behind threw Howard down to get the ball. One of the announcers immediately said wow no foul on a throwdown by Zoubek, then the other guy pointed out it was Zoubek's fifth foul too if called.

On the play you mentioned I agree it was a fight over possession and not a foul in any way.

Looked for a video but didn't find any. On the play it ended up with Zoubek going down and the ball went out off him so Butler got the ball. The complaint is that had they called the initial foul, Butler has more time, Zoubek is gone(5th foul) and Howard is at the line shooting 2 shots, a 79% shooter (who missed his first 3 FT's).

Duke still could have had a chance to win the game after Howard's FT's. But when you consider that Zoubek made Hayward miss the shot and then got the rebound, it was probably the one no call you can clearly say was game changing although certainly Butler had plenty of chances to win the game.

The refs definitely swallowed their whistles on that game, great game btw.

I was rooting for Butler all the way, even though Duke winning won my pool, awesome run to get there like that, they were not a lesser team at all, they gave Duke everything they could handle.

I was watching on my computer and didn't know how close that shot was to going in, wish it had.
