The Magic were hit with a fine by the NBA on Thursday afternoon for violating league injury reporting rules.
The team was penalized $25,000 for failing to accurately disclose the game-day availability status of Anthony Black prior to the Magic’s contest against the Pistons on Monday, the league said.
Black was listed as “Out” in Orlando’s initial injury report but played in the game. The Magic guard had missed the previous 16 games because of a left lateral abdominal strain he suffered March 7 at Minnesota.
Orlando listed Black as being out at 12:45 p.m. Monday for that’s day’s 7 p.m. tipoff. At around 2:30 p.m., Black was upgraded to questionable. By 3:15 p.m., the third-year pro was listed as probable.
After Black went through his pre-game warm-up routine at the Kia Center, Orlando announced he was available to play at 5:15 p.m., less than two hours ahead of the game against Detroit. Regardless of Black’s updated status the rest of the game day, the fine was levied because the initial report stated Black was out.
Black came off the bench and totaled 14 points with two assists and two steals in roughly 15 minutes of action. Orlando won Monday’s game 123-107 over the Pistons. The Magic’s next game is Friday at 8 p.m. at Chicago.
