Despite the notable departures of Cameron Boozer and Isaiah Evans, Jon Scheyer and the Blue Devils are spoiled with talent for the upcoming 2026-27 season. Although Duke has landed commitments from many top prospects, none of them seem more intriguing than Joaquim Boumtje-Boumtje.

This year Boumtje-Boumtje turned heads playing for FC Barcelona and then again with Team USA this summer. So much so that draft analysts believe he has No. 1 overall pick potential. Another basketball analyst (Terrence Oglesby) recently gave Boumtje-Boumtje a vote of confidence ahead of his first collegiate season, saying, “We haven’t seen much of Boumtje-Boumtje, but I think everybody has him penciled in as the starter. From what we’ve been told, he’s the No. 1 player in the class."

Oglesby went on to throw out Boumtje-Boumtje's name as a dark horse candidate for the ACC Player of the Year Award this upcoming season. While Boumtje-Boumtje is not yet a starter, his potential and polish make him one of the most intriguing prospects entering the 2026-27 campaign.
