During his weekly mailbag, national NFL writer Albert Breer was asked about which NFL team he thinks could regress in 2026. He mentioned the Jacksonville Jaguars but then turned his attention to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Breer thinks the Steelers are walking a tightrope because of the age of many of the team's top stars.
“One that I think you can look at, and just look at the age of the roster and say, they are kind of walking a tightrope right now, is Pittsburgh. TJ Watt's in his 30s, Cam Heyward's obviously at the very back end of his career, Jalen Ramsey's in his 30s," Breer said. "DK Metcalf's got a lot of mileage on his body. They bring in a couple of older vets in free agency and via trade with Michael Pittman Jr., Rico Dowdle, and Jamel Dean. That's a team that's got a lot of age before you even get to their quarterback that is entering his 22nd NFL season. If you're looking for a team where it's like a couple things go wrong and they could kind of fall apart a little bit, it could be Pittsburgh.”
There's no doubt that the Steelers are an injury or two away from being a six-win team and those are at spot where Pittsburgh has put its faith in aging veterans. A lot of this roster is structured as it is because of how the money has been spent and that has been at the expense of quality depth for untested youth.
