Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso is reportedly the subject of interest from another team in F1, though there is still much left to be decided.
Alonso is 44 years old, and at this point in his career, there are debates about how much racing he has left. He has just one year left on his current deal, leaving him without a job after the season.
Not only is he racing at such an advanced age, but he has been dealt a really poor hand in terms of the machinery that he is driving.
Aston Martin has failed to produce a podium challenger over the last few years, leading to Alonso often fighting for a point, if that.

According to F1 insider Lawrence Barretto, there is a decision to be made between what Alonso wants and what the team wants, who are looking quite rudderless and failing to even finish races, something they will hope to change with a massive car overhaul.
“This summer will also be particularly significant for Alonso’s decision-making as Aston Martin are planning a big upgrade, which is essentially a B-spec car so dramatic is the overhaul, while Honda are set to introduce their first major upgrade since returning to the sport for this season,” Barretto said.
“Sources say that Alonso is leaning towards wanting to continue beyond this season – but equally, the strain of driving an uncompetitive car is weighing heavily on his mind. If he decides to stay, it’s about whether he remains with Aston – or if there are options elsewhere.”

The team is likely another midfield challenger, with so many spots in the top already taken and talents like Oliver Bearman waiting for their chance at promotion.
A team like Cadillac would make sense, as they need some experience and help catching up to the other teams. He would offer a possible upgrade on Valtteri Bottas, who may be on the chopping block.
However, since they are so far away from being a powerhouse, it is hard to see Alonso investing in another project.
Perhaps, a return to Alpine could be on the cards, or Audi may be looking for an alternative to Nico Hulkenberg.
Regardless, it is not surprising that teams still believe in an older Alonso, who was fighting for race wins not too long ago during Aston Martin’s surprise surge.
