The Philadelphia Eagles trading A.J. Brown to the New England Patriots shouldn't have come as a surprise to anybody, as it was the worst-kept secret in the NFL. However, we were also treated to a stunning, earth-shaking trade on June 1 as the Cleveland Browns sent superstar edge rusher Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams.
No team will suffer more from the move than the reigning champion Seattle Seahawks, who went eyeball-to-eyeball with the Rams in three matchups last season, including the NFC Championship Game. Like most Super Bowl winners Seattle saw a few key players leave in free agency, most notably losing starting running back Kenneth Walker III to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Those losses combined with the Garrett trade probably puts the Rams ahead of the Seahawks as the team to beat in the NFL this season. The Super Bowl odds certainly agree.
As for the Atlanta Falcons, the move does help their schedule. Atlanta is slated to take a trip to Cleveland to face the Browns in Week 14 and now they no longer have to gameplan for stopping - or at least marginally disrupting - the best defensive player in the game.
That doesn't mean there's no threat off the edge waiting in Cleveland, though. As part of the trade the Browns got Jared Verse, a two-time Pro Bowler and former Defensive Rookie of the Year. His 83.9 overall PFF grade ranked him 11th out of 115 edge defenders last season.
