Since Im the only one seeing it live I figured I would give you guys an update of what Im seeing!

1. The Defense especially the D-line and Ray Thompson are absolutely wreaking havoc! 3 sacks already and should have had 2 more!

2. Calvin Pace is an absolute monster 1 sack, 1 hurry that caused an INT! A forced fumble and another QB hurry! This kid is for real! He may very well be a great candidate for defensive rookie of the year! This was all against 1st team! (showing he was worthy of where we picked him)

3. Wendell Bryant looked good on his sack and showed no quit despite being doubled!

4. The Offense has looked very good Emmitt ran well. Shipp was breaking off good runs like they are candy. Blake looks good and makes good decisions! Our opening drive was a thing of beauty!

5. Brian Gilmore was getting open and catching the ball looked very good!

6. Anquan boldin all I can say is this kid has talent and is a major factor!

7. James Hodgins has floored Urlacher more than once he may have been our best FA P/U! Nice catch too!

8. Larry Foster a couple nice catches as well!

Im am less woried about our d-line after seeing this so far and I am less worried about our WRs as well. Howevor this is tempered optimism I know its only pre-season. But remember this was all done against a very good 1st string Bears Defense!

Shane:

Looks like Jason McAddley's trying to help Kevin Kasper nail down that starting KR job. Two returns for 17.0 ypa ain't getting it done.

Has McAddley been on the field at WR?

Guess the Cards didn't see enough of McAddley returning kicks in the first half. Third attempt, 22 yards. 18.7 ypa on three returns. Way to go, Jason.

Looks like Scobey will be our starting KR.

Boy, McAddley's on fire. Fourth return, 18 yards. 18.5 ypa on four kicks.

This guy may be fast, but he can't make the first tackler miss to save his life. Put Kasper in, fer chrissakes.

Could be another explanation. McAddley's listed at #2 KR, Scobey at #3. One of the announcers said, before the first Bears kickoff to the Cards, that "Coach Mac knows what Kasper can do." Scobey got an attempt last week. Maybe this week was McAddley's turn.

The coaches could be trying to decide who their backup KR is gonna be. Might affect a roster decision on either Scobey or McAddley.

None of the three players did much tonight, but Kasper had a nine-yard catch, converting on 2nd-and-9. Scobey was ineffective for the second straight game, gaining 15 yards in six carries. McAddley didn't have a catch.

Who knows? I think Kasper should be on the final roster, but I don't have a vote.

That was the best part of the game for me to watch. Hodgins made Urlacher his little Bi....Well, you get it.

It was also a VERY nice change to see our QB use ALL of his options. The TD pass to Jones was just a preview of what is to come this season.

Did anyone else notice that our starting DL did not play the whole 1st. quarter. They played the first two series and then it was mix and match into the 3rd quarter before the scrubs took over. My theory is that the coaching staff didn't want to show their whole hand because the defense was looking so devastating and started backing off. Don't want to alarm the rest of the division until we start to play them. Whatdaya think?

I agree! I noticed this as well. But I must say that there was quite a drop-off on the D-lines performance when the 2nd and 3rd stringers started to play. That is quite disconcerting. I hope we have no more injuries along that front and that Marcus Bell is 100% healthy!

Sorry, Stout. Cardinal Koolaid only comes in gallon jugs (we like big jugs, what can we say?). I'll send you one. You can take little shots at a time.

Portland Oregon these days.
The guys on the radio thought the Cards did not want to tip off certain schemes they have to shut down the Bears offense -- especially since we play them 11/30.

Coach said Thursday he may have some players in odd situations to see how they do. I think some of the defense, mid second quarter on, was more about which players to keep than trying to win the game.

I can say it was hot and latter it was lightning. But the hottest thing last night that seemed to strike havic was the new look Cards defense. What a job they did last night. All 11 guys constantly in the game going for the ball. Thompson is a great football player , the safteys had more options as the play was constantly made on the line of scrimmage. Our D-line with Calvin, Bryant, Wakefield, Tanner, and the rest are learning to trust each other and that equals winning.

A couple of problems....Special team still not tackling well. To many almost breakaways by the Bears. Kicking is solid.

Starks hurt again. When he is in he is very, very, good. I don't know if he can play 10 gaqmes this year. Marcus Bell was wearing a leg brace in the second half and visably limping on the sideline.

Kenny King is a Player and will add youth quickness and spark to our line. Another rookie Reggie Wells started on the O-line and was beat a good deal in the beginning of the game , but came aroun and played steady till half time. GBR

Hopefully, by mid-season, I can be drinking a jug a day!
