Here is my wish starting lineup at DL.

Pace King Bryant Berry (4-3)

Pace Johnson King Bryant Berry (5-2)

In the 5-2 you could switch Johnson next to berry as well. Depending on which arm the QB uses. You would get a mad rush there.

I am really hopefull on Pace and Bryant this year with real coaching. Assuming of course Pace gets unhurt quickly.

King and Bryant play the same position......the "under DT". In a 4-3, you'll need to have a two gap DT......someone to plug the holes and anchor the run defense.

Exactly. I'd like to see Berry-Bell-Bryant-Pace (and coming out of the draft, you could subsitute in Sopoaga for Bell on maybe 20% of the non-passing downs) as the starting lineup for the 4-3. Pace would line up opposite the RT, Berry the LT. Frankly, I don't think that Pace is going to be ready to start to begin the season, and fear that he might never be as a Cardinal. Substitute King/KVB/Wakefield in place of him.

Not Johnson?

All right. I dunno. I kind of want DJ to spell Berry and have more of a killer instinct into the QB. DJ was drafted to kill QBs, but he hasn't really shown that ability yet. Maybe switching him to the other side can help.

What I do know is that Calvin Pace is not ready to contribute as a starter, and I wonder if he ever will be.

What happened to Bell? I haven't heard much about him from Mini Camp.

I'd like to see us get our best guys on the field. Right now, I think that's probably Berry and Johnson at DE. Johnson showed he can play at the end of last year, and I suspect he'll only get better under the new staff.

But, yeah, I hear ya. It'd be nice if we had someone with potential spelling Berry, too. But, maybe that's KVB on run downs.

It's hard to tell when a two-gap DT is doing well in drills. They can't "come off the line" like lightening, and I didn't hear a lot of stuff about the eleven-on-eleven drills. It's hard to tell when a 2-gap DT is doing well, unless you really understand football and are watching on TV to see how a player is commanding attention.

The other possiblity is that Bell didn't come because he hasn't signed his tender yet and might be waiting for a contract offer. I'm not sure if Jurecki, nidan, or BrightEyes would notice he was gone.

This is a contract year for Marcus Bell. He should really turn it on this season to show that he deserved his draft status. He's too big and strong not to have an impact for this team.

Wasn't he a 5th round pick?

Fourth round, according to ESPN.com. To me, he hasn't even played up to that level. Fourteen starts in three seasons?! Get Russell Davis and his 7.5 career sacks off the field, for goodness' sake.

I agree, I expected more from Bell last year and thought he would make the jump. It just never happened. Hopefully he can live up to expectations this year or could mean the end of the line for Mr Bell.

I think Berry, King, Johnson, with somebody else should start...how many of our players can play two gap? I know some of you want Bryant and Pace to start because they were picked in the first round but what have they really shown us? I think King and Johnson both looked better than Bryant and Pace. Boy we have a lot of tweeners on our team!!!!

Im new to this board but maybe Im missing something. You cant be serious! This is your true wish list for the DL? Pace, Johnson, Bell, Berry, King, Bryant..... how many of these guys played for us last year? How many sacks did we get? How much pressure did we put on opposing QB's? What makes you think that they will suddenly play like winners? Dont say Denny Green is the answer! We need talent! If we are stuck with basically the same starting D-line as last year then we best start looking forward to 2005! No... I dont have any immediate solutions but this definitely doesn't qualify as a wish list.

Welcome cardcrazy. Denny Green thinks we have some talent, it just has not been properly coached. We'll see.

Coaching, you can choose to ignore it but we havent had a coach on the team for a long team. And we havent had a dline coach for just as long!
