Michigan State women's basketball will unfortunately not be playing on their home floor next week in the NCAA Tournament.
The top 16 teams for the women's basketball NCAA Tournament were released on Saturday, and the Spartans didn't make the cut. This is especially notable because these 16 teams will receive a No. 4 seed or better and host the first and second round games of the NCAA Tournament next weekend.
Michigan State is a lock to be in the NCAA Tournament, and now, most likely will hear its name called as a No. 5 seed on Sunday when the full bracket is revealed.
The Spartans were included in the initial early release of the top 16 teams on March 1, but a poor finish to the year dropped them out of that mix. Michigan State was one of only two teams -- fellow Big Ten school Maryland being the other -- to drop outside the top 16 and lose the opportunity to host tournament games next week.
This is a tough break for the Spartans, who certainly would have benefited from having home court in their first and second round games. But, Michigan State is still in position to contend for a spot in the Sweet 16 -- something they haven't reached since 2009. It'll now just be a little bit harder based on their draw.

Its official that MSU won't host in the NCAA tournament. MSU and Maryland both fell out of the top 16 from the March 1 reveal. Spartans seem likely to be a No. 5 seed when the pairings are announced Sunday. https://t.co/kkZI3k2qTf
