It's time to tip off the NCAA Tournament!
As we come to expect at Michigan State in March, the Spartans are back in the NCAA Tournament with a first round matchup against North Dakota State set to take place on Thursday afternoon. Michigan State is the No. 3 seed in the East Region and will start their hopefully deep run in March against the No. 14 seeded Bison on Thursday.
Michigan State comes into the tournament off back-to-back losses to rival Michigan and UCLA, and with an overall record of 25-7 on the year. This marks the Spartans' 28th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, which is the longest active streak in the country.
North Dakota State returns to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2019, with the Bison in search of only their second ever tournament victory in program history. The Bison finished the season with a 27-7 overall record, and with wins in 17 of their last 19 games.
Michigan State is listed as a 16.5-point favorite in this matchup against North Dakota State, according to FanDuel. The winner will move on to the second round and play the winner of No. 6 seed Louisville and No. 11 seed South Florida on Saturday.
Prepare for this game by checking out the television info and my game prediction below:
Date / Tip Time: Thursday, March 19 at approximately 4:05 p.m. ET
TV: TNT
Prediction: Michigan State 81, North Dakota State 63
As long as Michigan State doesn't let the Bison get hot from behind the three-point line, they should in theory make this a stress free first round matchup. The Spartans have an advantage when it comes to length, rebounding and pure talent, but the Bison have the ability to knock down threes. So if Michigan State defends the perimeter as we saw in the Big Ten Tournament game, then this one could get interesting. I'm going to assume they learned their lesson from that clunker in Chicago last weekend and will be ready to handle what North Dakota State throws at them.
