Can Michigan State make it back-to-back trips to the Sweet 16? That's what they'll be aiming for on Saturday afternoon.
No. 3 seed Michigan State will battle No. 6 seed Louisville in a NCAA Tournament second round matchup from Buffalo on Saturday. The Spartans and Cardinals will be battling for a spot in the Sweet 16, and opportunity to play again on Friday next week in Washington, D.C.
Michigan State rolled in their opening round game against No. 14 seed North Dakota State on Thursday, winning by the final score of 92-67. The Spartans led throughout the game, with the Bison never getting it within single-digits in the second half.
Louisville also looked impressive for most of their first round matchup against No. 11 seed South Florida. The Cardinals led by more than 20 in the second half, but ultimately won by the final score of 83-79 after a late rally from the Bulls.
Michigan State is listed as a narrow favorite of 4.5 points in this matchup, according to FanDuel. Louisville will be without one of its top players as star freshman guard Mikel Brown Jr. is out with a back injury.
Prepare for this game by checking out the television info and my game prediction below:
Date / Tip Time: Saturday, March 21 at approximately 2:45 p.m. ET
TV: CBS
Prediction: Michigan State 80, Louisville 74
This one has the making to be a great one, with the opportunity to be an instant classic. Two big-name programs that are similar in ability and with plenty of talent. I anticipate it being a tight game throughout, with both teams putting together runs at different points in the game. But ultimately, in the end, I have Michigan State finishing strong and Tom Izzo putting on another hall of fame-caliber prep job to put the Spartans in position for a return trip to the Sweet 16.
