LEXINGTON — Kentucky basketball and coach Mark Pope raided a conference rival for its latest transfer portal addition.

Mouhamed Dioubate, who played for Alabama the past two seasons, committed to UK on Monday. He announced his commitment in a post on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, including a graphic of himself in a Kentucky jersey. Dioubate appeared in 70 games for the Crimson Tide, all off the bench. He averaged 2.9 points and 2.4 rebounds in 7.8 minutes per game during his freshman season in 2023-24.

But he improved on all those averages as a sophomore.

Dioubate averaged 7.2 points and 5.9 rebounds in 16 minutes per game last season. Per 40 minutes, Dioubate's averages would amount to a double-double: 18.1 points and 10.1 rebounds.

Aside from his averages, Dioubate's raw numbers saw a jump from his freshman to sophomore seasons — especially his shooting.

Here are the numbers:

  • 2023-24: Field goal percentage: 47.4 (36 of 76), 3-point percentage: 9.1 (1 of 11), free-throw percentage: 47.1 (24 of 51);
  • 2024-25: Field goal percentage: 61.7 (100 of 162), 3-point percentage: 46.2 (88 of 136), free-throw percentage: 60.9 (56 of 92).

Dioubate is the third player the Wildcats have plucked from the transfer portal since their 2024-25 season ended: Former Tulane wing Kam Williams gave his pledge March 28 while ex-Pittsburgh guard Jaland Lowe committed Saturday.
