Morocco vs Tanzania: Match preview, head-to-head, team news, line-ups, prediction

Morocco take on Tanzania in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations round of 16 clash at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The hosts finished top of Group A with seven points, while Tanzania came third in Group C, emerging as one of the best third-placed teams to advance.

Match preview

Morocco have been one of the best teams in the competition. Backed by the home fans, the Atlas Lions have played with attacking fluidity and dominance.

The Atlas Lions beat Comoros 2-0 in their opening match, were held to a 1-1 draw by Mali and put any lingering doubts about them to rest with a convincing 3-0 victory over Zambia.

Walid Regragui’s side rank first for accurate passes and total shots, and second for ball possession per game.

Tanzania, meanwhile, have struggled, collecting just two points during the group campaign, advancing to the knockout stage of the competition for the first time.

The Taifa Stars lost 2-1 to Nigeria in their first game, before playing out a 1-1 draw against Uganda and Tunisia respectively.

However, Tanzania have shown defensive resilience, which was evident again against Tunisia. They will now hope to build on that performance in this clash.

Team news

Romain Saiss and Hamza Igamane are the only injury concerns for Morocco, with captain Achraf Hakimi making his competition debut against Zambia.

Tanzania, on the other hand, have a clean bill of health.

Head-to-head

Both teams have met only once at AFCON, but have faced each other eight times overall, with Morocco winning seven and Tanzania triumphing once.

Predicted line-ups

Morocco (4-3-3): Yassine Bounou, Noussair Mazraoui, Adam Masina, Nayef Aguerd, Anass Salah-Eddine, Sofyan Amrabat, Azzedine Ounahi, Neil El Aynaoui, Brahim Diaz, Yakub El Kaabi, Ismael Saibari.

Tanzania (4-2-3-1): Hussein Masalanga, Mohamed Hussein, Ibrahim Hamad, Bakari Mwamnyeto, Dickson Job, Novatus Miroshi, Alphonce Msanga, Simon Msuva, Feisal Salum, Haji Mnoga, Mbwana Samatta.

Prediction

We expect Morocco to triumph 3-0.
