Week 5, our final week of the Moneyball Pro-Am, saw only one team take home the trophy.

The championship bracket held its three first-round games Tuesday night.

In the 6PM game, Team Faygo (Cam Ward, Jasiah Jervis) beat Team SPS (Jordan Scott, Julius Avent) to advance to Round 2.

The #1-seeded Team LAFCU (Jeremy Fears, Ethan Taylor) barely avoided being upset by the winless #6-seed Team BLT (Kaleb Glenn, Matthew Watkins) in an 81-78 victory.

Tuesday night’s last game featured another near 50-burger from Carlos Medlock Jr for Team Motorcars (Medlock, Anton Bonke), who scored 48 points in a 96-94 upset win over Team Tri-Star (Coen Carr, Jesse McCulloch). Medlock had half of Motorcars’ 96 points – this kid is going to be special in the Green and White.

Thursday

Thursday’s semifinal game between Team Faygo (Ward, Jervis) and Team Motorcars (Medlock, Bonke) ended with a game-winning shot by MSU freshman Jasiah Jervis. Jervis knocked down a deep three-ball with two seconds left to give Team Faygo the 92-89 victory over Team Motorcars. Check out Jervis’ game-winning jumper:

That shot put Team Faygo into the championship game against the top-seeded Team LAFCU (Fears, Taylor). Former Spartan and current Orlando Magic player Jase Richardson made sure to see the final game for himself.

After winning their first game of the night and being down early in the final game, Team Faygo (Ward, Jervis) came back late to take the lead over Team LAFCU (Fears, Taylor). With a 74-72 Faygo lead, Jeremy Fears had an attempt to win it at the buzzer:

Faygo came back and won 74-72 in its second game of the night. One of the better games I’ve seen at Moneyball.

What a highlight that would’ve been for Fears with an in-and-out dribble to make his defender hit the floor, but he just couldn’t get the shot to fall. Team Faygo, featured by Jasiah Jervis and Cam Ward (along with Tre Holloman), are the champions of this year’s Moneyball Pro-Am.
