One of the famous lines in the movie "Field of Dreams" is that "People will come, Ray."
It's a nod to the idea that if the Iowa farmer played by Kevin Costner kept the baseball field he built for banished members of the 1919 Chicago White Sox, fans would come.
Just as predicted, the 1989 movie ended with a long string of cars lining up and pulling into the Dyersville farm to visit the diamond. Turns out, people are still coming. And Major League Baseball is bringing them.
A source with direct knowledge of the situation told the Register on Aug. 13 that MLB will return to Dyersville for the fourth time in 2027. It's further evidence of the Dubuque County site’s prominence as a baseball mecca.
“Field of Dreams” is among the most popular sports films of all time, with Costner hearing voices from his corn field and deciding to build a ballpark. The decision leads to Costner repairing his relationship with his late father.

The flick has stood the test of time, with the diamond becoming a major tourist attraction for fans from around the world. But it’s taken on new life in recent years.
MLB gave the site a boost in 2021 by playing a regular-season game between the White Sox and New York Yankees on a specially constructed stadium located near the Dyersville diamond.
That game was a huge hit, with Costner walking out of the corn and leading players from both teams onto the field. The game ended with White Sox star Tim Anderson belting a home run into the Iowa corn.
The Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds returned the following season. MLB took a three-year hiatus as a new, permanent stadium was constructed. The Twins and Phillies were set to play there Aug. 13, MLB’s third game in Dyersville.
