MLB Analyst Reveals Silver Linings For Alex Cora After Shocking Dismissal From Red Sox originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Mark DeRosa played 16 seasons in the Major Leagues and just managed Team USA in the 2026 World Baseball Classic, so he knows what it's like to be a player and a manager. He also managed several Boston Red Sox players during the WBC, including Roman Anthony and Garrett Whitlock, so he has a relationship with some of them now.
Now an analyst for MLB Network, DeRosa shared his thoughts on Alex Cora's shocking dismissal on Monday's episode of "MLB Central."
"Alex Cora makes out like a bandit for me," DeRosa said. "He gets out of a potential dysfunctional situation right now. There's obviously a disconnect between the way Craig Breslow and their front office wants to run this team."

DeRosa said he still likes Boston's lineup and several of the team's recent moves, including the Willson Contreras trade. However, he questioned the wisdom of losing Alex Bregman in free agency and pivoting to Ranger Suarez given the club's offensive needs.
He also thinks Cora was dealt a tough hand this season with the roster, which has too many outfielders and not enough bats.
Cora had just started the second season of a three-year, $21.75 million contract, which he's still owed the remainder of. That gives him plenty of time to plan his next move, whether that's managing somewhere else, returning to TV or taking a break.
"I look at Alex Cora, if I'm him, it feels like they did him a favor," DeRosa continued. "They gotta pay him...to go plan his next attack. Where's he gonna win his next World Series?"
Time will tell what Cora decides to do next. But for now, he doesn't seem too upset about losing his job based on his recent social media posts.
