Jan. 23—LAS VEGAS — Mitchell's Rickey Nelsen successfully defended his national bench press title, winning the 66-kilogram (145.5 pounds) men's Masters 1 division at Powerlifting America's Bench Nationals in Las Vegas on Jan. 9.
Nelsen went 3-for-3 and finished with a bench press of 130 kilograms (286.5 pounds), and once again qualified to represent Team USA at the International Powerlifting Federation's World Classic and Equipped Bench Press Championship on May 23-31 in Warsaw, Poland. The IPF Master 1 Division is for athletes aged 40-49, which was established in 1982.
Nelsen's 130-kilogram press (286.5 pounds) also bested his own state record in the Open and Masters (M1) divisions.
