Mitchell's Rickey Nelsen accepts nomination for IPF World Classic Bench Press Championships

Mar. 18—MITCHELL — Mitchell's Rickey Nelsen accepted his nomination for the 2026 International Powerlifting Federation World Classic Bench Press Championships to be held from May 23-31 in Warsaw, Poland.

Nelsen will be representing Team USA in the 66-kilogram (145.5 pounds) Master 1 Division for the second consecutive year. The IPF Master 1 Division is for athletes aged 40-49. The complete roster for each weight class and division is not yet finalized for the IPF championships, as preliminary nominations are still open for all countries.

Most recently, Nelsen successfully defended his national bench press title, winning the 66-kilogram men's Masters 1 division at Powerlifting America's Bench Nationals in Las Vegas on Jan. 9.

Nelsen went 3-for-3 and finished with a bench press of 130 kilograms (286.5 pounds), and once again qualified to represent Team USA at the IPF World Classic and Equipped Bench Press Championships on May 23-31 in Warsaw, Poland, which he accepted. Nelsen's 130-kilogram press also bested his own state record in the Open and Masters (M1) divisions.
