Columbus Clippers 7, Syracuse Mets 13
Clippers fall to 59-53
The Columbus Clippers scored plenty, but the pitching coughed up 13 runs on 14 hits Saturday.
Offensively, Kyle Manzardo and Blake Perkins both hit their first Triple-A home runs of the season.
David Fry went 2-for-5 with a double, Daniel Schneemann went 1-fo-3 with a double and two walks while Cooper Ingle walked twice. Dayan Frias went 2-for-4 with a stolen baseand Milan Tolentino went 1-for-3 with a double and a walk and Ralphy Velazquez singled and was hit by a pitch.
Starting pitcher Yorman Gomez was absolutely tattooed for nine runs on eight hits in 3.1 innings pitched. He struck out three and walked three. Hunter Stanley and Jake Miller both gave up two runs in relief as well. Only Connor Brogden had a scoreless outing with 1.2 solid frames of relief.
Akron RubberDucks 6, Somerset Patriots 3
RubberDucks improve to 50-56
Tyresse Turner had a strong day at the plate Saturday for Akron, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and a pair of runs batted in.
Aaron Walton also had a strong day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double, a stolen base and a sacrifice fly while Ryan Cesarini doubled and had three runs batted in.
Bennett Thompson went 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base while Dean Curley singled and stole a base. Alex Mooney also went 1-for-3 with a walk and a steal and Logun Clark walked twice.
Starting pitcher Sean Matson allowed three runs on two hits in 4.2 innings. He walked four and struck out four.
Jack Jasiak and Zach Jacobs were the real pitching heroes, however, combining for 4.1 scoreless innings of relief to earn a win and save, respectively.
Lake County Captains 2, Lansing Lugnuts 3
Captains fall to 54-49
The bullpen, defense and lack of offense blew what had been a spectacular pitching performance for Lake County on Saturday.
Jacob Zibin pitched 5.0 shutout innings of two-hit ball with three walks and three strikeouts. Conner Zsak followed with 2.0 scoreless innings before Jogly Garcia allowed two unearned runs and then Luke Hernandez took the loss without allowing a hit because he walked four batters in his 1.0 innings of work.
Tommy Hawke went 2-for-4 including a leadoff home run, just his second of the season. Luis De La Cruz doubled and no one else reached base safely more than once or had an extra base hit.
Hill City Howlers 3, Wilson Warbirds 8
Howlers fall to 45-62
Jose Pirela led the way, going 1-for-3 with his 11th home run of the season. Yelferth Castillo and Jonathan Martinez both went 2-for-4 with Martinez also walking and stealing a base.
All four pitchers allowed at least one run. Starter Ryan DeSanto allowed three of them on four hits in 4.0 innings with four strikeouts and three walks.
