Los Angeles Dodgers prospect Kendall George had to relive an unfortunate memory in his return from injury Wednesday. The 2023 first-round pick was making a rehab assignment for the Single-A Ontario Tower Buzzers a month after a freak accident involving a bat dog.
Back on May 25, when George was playing for the Double-A Tulsa Drillers, the outfielder suffered a patellar tendon injury while attempting to avoid the bat dog running onto the field. He hopped over the dog and landed awkwardly, resulting in what appeared to be a significant amount of pain. George immediately slammed his helmet to the ground and yelled at no one in particular as he limped his way back to the dugout.
George would eventually miss a month with the injury. The Visalia Rawhide weren't exactly welcoming in his first game back. As George approached the batter's box and again when he struck out, the Rawhide played barking noises.
It obviously wasn't a very class move. George didn't even get the last laugh, as he went 0 for 3 with two strikeouts.
George, a 21-year-old from Humble, Texas, is the Dodgers' 13th-ranked prospect. He's expected to make his MLB debut in 2027.
