Mark Pope has landed a much-needed signature piece from the transfer portal.
Iowa State transfer Milan Momcilovic has committed to Kentucky, he announced Monday on Instagram. The 6-foot-8 forward averaged 16.9 points and 3.1 rebounds per game last season. He led the nation in both 3-point percentage and total 3-pointers made, shooting 48.7% from beyond the arc while knocking down 136 triples.
Momcilovic was ranked by 247Sports as the No. 2 player in the transfer portal, behind only Louisville signee Flory Bidunga. After withdrawing from the NBA draft May 27, he was the only top-90 free agent available, and one of just two uncommitted transfers in 247Sports' top 200.
This past season, Momcilovic was named to the All-Big 12 second team. He reached double figures in 30 of the Cyclones' 37 games, including a career-high 34 points at Cincinnati. In Iowa State's Round of 32 game against Kentucky, Momcilovic recorded 20 points and five rebounds.
Momcilovic participated in the NBA Draft Combine while in the transfer portal, but ultimately decided to return to college and seek a new school after spending three seasons with the Cyclones. While in the portal, reports indicated Momcilovic also considered Louisville and Arizona. St. John's and former UK coach Rick Pitino also were expected to be in the mix for Momcilovic before landing another player who withdrew from the draft: guard Tounde Yessoufou, who spent last season at Baylor.
The senior will immediately provide much-needed scoring help for a Wildcats team that lost its top five scorers from 2025-26, either to graduation or the transfer portal. If Momcilovic can carry over his title as the top 3-point shooter in the country, UK should improve significantly on a 34.2% clip from downtown that ranked 168th nationally and ninth in the SEC last season.
The move calls to mind Pope's first offseason, when Kentucky picked up a commitment from Koby Brea. The prior season at Dayton, Brea led Division I in 3-point percentage. In his lone season with the Wildcats in 2024-25, Brea was the SEC's most accurate 3-point shooter.
