The New England Patriots have reportedly hired former New York Giants and Tennessee Titans defensive coordinator Shane Bowen as a defensive analyst.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported the news on Friday.
Bowen was Patriots coach Mike Vrabel's defensive coordinator during the last three seasons of his run with the Titans. There is also a connection between Patriots defensive coordinator Zak Kuhr and Bowen. Per Patriots.com's Evan Lazar, Kuhr views Bowen as a "mentor figure" in the NFL.
Bowen began his NFL career in 2016 as a defensive assistant with the Houston Texans. He then progressed to defensive coordinator with the Tennessee Titans by 2021. He served the same role with the New York Giants in 2024 and 2025.
Vrabel has worked hard shoring up his coaching staff with people that he can trust.
Bowen is an experienced coach who should fit into Vrabel's system in New England like a glove. Adding another strong defensive coaching voice to the room should only mean good things for a Patriots defense that proved to be among the best last season.
