Mike McCarthy didn’t need to say much to accurately express how the Pittsburgh Steelers – and their fans -- feel about Myles Garrett leaving the AFC North.
“I’m all for it,” McCarthy joked.
Pittsburgh has spent years dealing with Garrett twice a season. He’s been the kind of player who can ruin a drive, flip field position, or force an offense to adjust everything around him. No Steelers quarterback, coordinator, or offensive line coach ever had the luxury of ignoring No. 95.
McCarthy still made sure to give Garrett the respect he’s earned and deserves.
“No, Myles Garrett is a phenomenal player that I had a chance to compete against two years ago,” McCarthy said. “When you see these types of situations, it happens. He’ll have a great opportunity out there in L.A. These trades and transactions, I’m never surprised, but what a great player.”
Will Howard had a similar reaction shortly after the news broke, saying it was “not bad for us” because the Steelers won’t have to see that “beast” twice a year anymore.
That’s really the Steelers’ takeaway. Garrett’s gone from the AFC North, and you won't hear Pittsburgh complaining about it.
