Mike Green's jersey number change wasn't simply about aesthetics. Appearing on The Lounge Podcast with Ryan Mink and Clifton Brown, the Ravens pass rusher explained why returning to No. 15 was an important personal decision entering his second NFL season. Green wore No. 15 while becoming one of college football's most productive pass rushers, and he views the number as part of his football identity.

"When you establish yourself as a player in a certain number, you want to keep it," Green said.

The edge rusher said fans often underestimate the emotional connection players have to their jersey numbers.

"It's a lot more than what people see and what it might seem like," Green said.

Green pointed to the success he enjoyed wearing No. 15 before entering the NFL.

"When I was in college and I got all these sacks in 15, it's like, all right, well I established myself as this pass rusher in this number 15," Green said.

Rather than viewing the number as a fresh start, Green sees it as a continuation of the work he has already put in.

"I want to continue doing this while also building up on what I've already established," Green said.

The number change also comes as Green enters what many believe could be a breakout season.

"It means a lot to me," Green said. "That's why, of course, I changed my number."

And, like any player unveiling a new look, Green hopes it leads to good results.

"Of course, I hope it looks better on me than my old number," Green said.
