OXFORD — Frustration boiled over for Ole Miss baseball coach Mike Bianco in the Rebels' game against Vanderbilt on April 27.

Home plate umpire Will Posey ejected Bianco in the second inning of the series finale between No. 18 Ole Miss (31-12, 12-8 SEC) and No. 10 Vanderbilt (30-13, 11-9). The Commodores lead early in the game. Ole Miss is playing for the sweep after winning the first two games of the series.

The disagreement seemed to stem from Vanderbilt pitcher Connor Fennell's speedy pitching style. Fennell has been delivering pitches almost immediately after receiving the ball from the catcher. Ole Miss batters were assessed delay-of-game strikes twice for taking too long to settle into the batter's box before Bianco came out to protest.

Bianco was ejected while walking back to the dugout after a heated conversation with Posey. It was Bianco's second trip out to home plate. Bianco turned back to rip into Posey some more after he was ejected.

Other coaches have complained about Fennell's unique pitching process this season.

Bianco's tirade could benefit the Rebels. Posey seemed to instruct Fennell to slow his delivery. Ole Miss needs to break Fennell's rhythm to get back in the game. Fennell started the game with four scoreless innings. He held the Rebels to one hit.
