East Lansing senior KJ Torbert has a pretty solid feel for this player of the year thing.
Earning the Michigan Mr. Basketball honor, which Torbert received in a ceremony in March at the Detroit Free Press, will do that.
Now, he’s adding to his deep list of accolades.
On Thursday, April 9, Torbert was named the Michigan Sports Writers Division 1 boys basketball player of the year.
The Bowling Green signee helped lead East Lansing to the state championship game on the hardwood this season, averaging 25.8 points and 6.2 rebounds a game, while making 58 3-pointers for the season.
East Lansing fell to Rockford in a 54-50 instant classic at the Division 1 level, just the second loss of the season in 27-2 year.

Division 3 All-State: Michigan Sports Writers Division 3 all-state boys basketball teams

Rockford was represented well on the Division 1 all-state lists as well, which included Kyle Clough earning the coach of the year honor from the Michigan Sports Writers.
