Michael Jordan reacts to Stacey King's death
The legacy former OU and Lawton star Stacey King left behind with the Chicago Bulls as a player and broadcaster came pouring out in tributes during the 24 hours since the team announced the 59-year-old's death on Sunday, June 7. He was a constant link between the franchise's greatest years and its current generation of players, with achievements that helped establish the most famous Bull of them all.
Michael Jordan released a statement on Monday in the wake of King's passing and emphasized King's role on his first three NBA championship teams with the Bulls (1991-93). King was the No. 6 overall pick in the 1989 NBA draft by Chicago and played eight seasons in the NBA before a long career as a beloved color commentator on Bulls' television broadcasts.
He was 59 years old.
"I'm deeply saddened to learn of Stacey's passing," Jordan said, according to ESPN 1000 in Chicago. "We shared some special years together as teammates, and he was part of a group that helped define an era of Chicago Bulls basketball. My thoughts are with Stacey's family, friends, and everyone whose lives he touched."
The official cause of King's death is unknown at this point.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office told ABC 7 in Chicago that King was found dead at his home in the River Forest neighborhood on Sunday morning, and a head autopsy is needed to determine the cause of death. ESPN 1000 host David Kaplan reported King's death occurred after "a fall at his home."
Texas Tech's Sorsby granted injunction, ADs furious
News about Brendan Sorsby being granted an injunction to be eligible to play for the Texas Tech football team in 2026 is being met with backlash from across the sports landscape.
Retired Tarrant County judge Ken Curry ruled in Sorsby's favor Monday after Sorsby, who admitted to gambling on sports, including on Indiana football games while he was a member of the Hoosiers, to bypass the NCAA's previous ruling that stripped Sorsby of his college eligibility. Curry's ruling grants Sorsby eligibility after serving a two-game suspension (games at home against Abilene Christian and at Oregon State) and says the NCAA cannot ban the Cincinnati transfer from competing with the Red Raiders.
In addition to the wide-ranging opinions of folks around the sport of college football, Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports dropped a story Monday afternoon that says athletic directors across the Big 12, and SEC, are less than thrilled about the ruling.
Discussions have included whether or not teams want to play Texas Tech.
"We've had some serious conversation about it," Kansas State athletic director Gene Taylor is quoted as saying in the story. "There is still a lot to be discussed. We aren't scheduled to play them this year, but it's something we have to look at from a college football perspective. This is greater than the Big 12."
Georgia athletic director Josh Brooks said, "I think there needs to be serious conversations about not playing Texas Tech in any sports."
Brooks' suggestion is not a new one for Texas Tech athletics, the softball team facing similar scrutiny from teams in the SEC over the Red Raiders' use of the transfer portal last year. Those powers managed to keep Texas Tech off the schedule (for the most part) and led to plenty of friction between the conference and the Big 12 school throughout the year.
Taylor, the K-State AD, is also quoted as saying, "It's (expletive)ing bull(expletive)."

Hamlin ties Busch's career wins
Denny Hamlin took the lead in the FireKeepers Casino 400 on Sunday, June 7 and never looked back. In a NASCAR Cup Series race that featured a record-high 11 caution flags at Michigan International Speedway, it was all green flag racing on the final 37 laps and nobody could catch Hamlin’s No. 11 Toyota.
Hamlin built up a lead of more than 11.110 seconds — the largest of his career — comfortably coasting to the finish line for his second second consecutive win at Michigan. Hamlin won last week at Nashville too, marking back-to-back checkered flags for the 45-year-old.
The victory for Hamlin gave him 63 in his NASCAR Cup Series career, moving him into a tie for ninth all-time with the late Kyle Busch, his former longtime teammate at Joe Gibbs Racing. After winning, Hamlin did a victory lap holding a flag out the window that gave a nod to both Busch’s No. 18 and No. 8 cars.

MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL: The OKC Comets closed out a six-game series against Round Rock with a 7-3 victory Sunday afternoon at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, scoring twice in the first inning and never trailing. Hyeseong Kim had a three-hit game while also driving in a pair of runs, scoring a run and collecting his first stolen base with the Comets this year. But the top highlight was a wild double play that was deemed the No. 1 play on ESPN's "SportsCenter" in which left field Jack Suwinski slid for a catch on a popup, instead popping the ball up to third baseman Noah Miller, who immediately threw to first from left-field foul territory for the second out.
