Yesterday, the Miami Dolphins officially parted ways with “senior personnel executive” Champ Kelly.

Kelly, as you remember, was the Dolphins’ interim general manager after the team fired Chris Grier back in October. New GM Jon-Eric Sullivan kept Kelly on board through the draft process, but like many of the team’s former scouts, he was relieved of his duties yesterday.

Another personnel executive ‘released of his duties’ yesterday was Jacksonville Jaguars senior personnel executive Josh Scobey. (See where I’m going with this?!?) However, it didn’t take long for Scobey to find a new gig, landing with the Dolphins, according to CBS Sports’ National NFL insider, Matt Zenitz.

(NOTE: Despite not officially being announced, it is believed Scobey will replace Champ Kelly, who recently held the same position with the Dolphins.)

Who is Josh Scobey?

Although the name may sound familiar, this is not the same Josh Scobee who kicked field goals for the Jaguars for over a decade.

Josh Scobey, the Miami Dolphins’ newest senior personnel executive, is a former NFL running back — and kick returner — who played in the NFL from 2002-2007. The former sixth-round pick of the 2002 NFL Draft (185th overall) played three seasons with the Arizona Cardinals (2002-2004), three seasons with the Seattle Seahawks (2005-2007), and a short stint with the Buffalo Bills in 2007. He led the NFL in kick return yards in 2003 with 1,684 yards.

After football, Scobey, now 46, worked with the Arizona Cardinals from 2010 to 2023. He was promoted to director of college scouting with the Cardinals before joining the Jaguars in 2024. Scobey now joins Jon-Eric Sullivan and his revamped front office, after a 2026 draft that saw the Dolphins select 13 rookies.

What are your thoughts on the Miami Dolphins replacing Champ Kelly with Josh Scobey? Do you trust Jon-Eric Sullivan completely after his impressive start with the franchise? How has the draft changed your opinion of the 2026 season? Let us know in the comments section below!
