MOSCOW — Mexico’s World Cup journey has been a wondrous feast of color and excitement, and even amid its first defeat on Wednesday, there was celebration. There has been so much to like about this Mexico squad, a team that came in with low expectations and stunned defending champion Germany in its opening game, a result that ultimately, set the Germans on the path to an early exit. There are outstanding players like Hirving Lozano, who is about to climb to international stardom, flashes of brilliance from others like goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa and all along the way, the vibrant noise and smiles and chants from a loyal mass of traveling supporters. Beating Sweden on Wednesday would have put El Tri at the top of Group F and likely would have guarded against a second-round match-up against Brazil.
