The Mets are moving on from David Peterson.
In a late-night trade Wednesday, the Mets agreed to send the veteran left-hander to the Chicago Cubs, according to ESPN.
The return package was not immediately available.
Peterson was an All-Star last season, but he is just 3-6 with a 6.09 ERA this year and had shuffled in and out of the Mets’ rotation.
The 30-year-old had spent his entire seven-year MLB career with the Mets, going 40-36 with a 4.31 ERA.
Peterson is set to fill a void on a Cubs pitching staff ravaged by injuries.
The Mets were willing to part with Peterson, an impending free agent, despite their own pitching needs. Clay Holmes and Christian Scott are on the injured list, while Kodai Senga was demoted to the bullpen this week amid his extended struggles.
It remains to be seen whether this is the first of more trades to come for the Mets, who fell to 34-46 when they were swept by the Cubs in Wednesday’s doubleheader.
Peterson won’t have to go far to join his new team, as the Cubs remain in Queens for Thursday night’s series finale.
