The New York Mets' outfield is getting younger in a hurry.

Carson Benge has started to heat up, and A.J. Ewing is in the big leagues now.

They've still got Juan Soto, of course, and they're awaiting the return from injury of Luis Robert Jr.

All those names mean that one guy, Tyrone Taylor, could soon be the odd man out.

Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller predicts in a new article that Taylor is going to be designated for assignment -- which means taken off the 40-man roster and placed on waivers.

Miller does note that he believes it's more likely a DFA happens to Taylor than it does to Mark Vientos, who has also been disappointing but is younger and plays on the infield.

"Taylor landed on the IL two weeks ago with a strained hip flexor, but that may have merely delayed the inevitable," Miller writes. "After posting a .598 OPS in 2025, Taylor is at .530 this season. And it was already clear prior to the injury that the center field job is A.J. Ewing's to lose. If Luis Robert Jr. ever makes it back from his back injury, Taylor might not have a role in this outfield any longer."

Taylor, a long time ago, was a promising outfield prospect for the Milwaukee Brewers.

He's long since become a bench-level outfielder in the major leagues, and while he's had a few highlight moments with the Mets, the overall production hasn't been anything to write home about.

Taylor would likely get a chance with another team if the Mets cut him loose, but that's not really New York's concern at the moment.

Can they use Taylor's roster spot better on a different player? The answer seems like it is probably yes.
