The Mets are doing little to pad their stature in the NL East.
After a series split against the Nationals last week, the Mets have ensured that they will drop their first series of the season to the Marlins. They dropped the first two games of the series after scoring two combined runs on six hits in two defeats.
Now, the Mets will be looking to avoid a sweep in the series finale at 1:40 p.m. on Sunday afternoon at loanDepot Park.
The Mets scored one run on Friday on a first-inning Juan Soto home run. One night later, the Mets waited until the ninth inning to break through on a Mark Vientos RBI single.
Christian Scott will be returning to his home state as he faces the Marlins on Sunday afternoon.
Scott has made five starts this season, registering a 0-0 record with a 4.12 ERA and 1.47 WHIP. He allowed three earned runs on four hits and three walks with five strikeouts in his last start against the Nationals.
The Marlins are rolling with a long reliever in 28-year-old Tyler Phillips. The right-hander, who is a South Jersey native, has made 15 appearances, allowing four earned runs in 30 innings (1.20 ERA) with a 1.27 WHIP and 27 strikeouts.
