The New York Mets are in the middle of one of the worst seasons in recent memory.
Despite the well-below .500 record, the club still needs to send a player to the 2026 MLB All-Star Game, and there's no surprise about who got the nod.
Outfielder Juan Soto has still managed to string together a relatively strong campaign, which led to the 27-year-old getting the nod to start for the NL in this year's ASG.
Entering Saturday, Soto is hitting .298 with 28 extra-base hits including 18 home runs, 41 RBIs and a .972 OPS in 70 games for the Mets this season.
This is Soto's fifth All-Star Game selection, and remarkably his fourth team that he'll be representing in the Summer Classic. The OF has now made the ASG for the Washington Nationals, San Diego Padres, New York Yankees, and in just over a week, he'll represent the Mets.
While there is much to be said about Soto's tenure with the Mets thus far, another storyline worth mentioning is that he is the only Met heading to Philadelphia this year. It doesn't come as much of a surprise, given that New York is 36-52 entering Saturday.
There hasn't been much of a bright spot on the team this season, aside from Soto, as the club navigates a season that many would like to forget.
Soto might be involved in more than the ASG, as he hinted at a possible return to the Home Run Derby on Saturday night.
"I don’t know. I don't know. I've definitely been thinking about it," MLB.com's Anthony DiComo transcribed on X. "We're still thinking. Philadelphia, it seems like it's going to be fun. But I will see. I will see."
The last time Soto participated in the HRD, 2022, he took home the crown.
Soto will be commanding the outfield alongside Philadelphia Phillies' Brandon Marsh and Los Angeles Dodgers' Andy Pages.
The NL's infield will have Atlanta Braves' catcher Drake Baldwin, Dodgers' first baseman Freddie Freeman, Braves' second baseman Ozzie Albies, Washington Nationals' shortstop CJ Abrams, Dodgers' third baseman Max Muncy and Dodgers' designated hitter Shohei Ohtani starting off the game.
Tune in to watch Soto represent your New York Mets on Tuesday, July 14 8:00 P.M. EST.
